Spacecraft: Earth Orbit:
Atlantis

Summary:Atlantis high-resolution model.
Description:This is an accurate depiction of the space shuttle Atlantis. Although the doors are not open to radiate heat from the ship back into space, it is a realistic rendition of the spacecraft itself. See ElChristou's Flight Deck version of this model before you download this one.

While in orbit, the real Shuttle's payload bay doors are alway open. There are radiators on the inside of the doors that exhaust waste heat generated in the Shuttle into space. Consequently, the doors must be open to keep the Shuttle cool for on-orbit operations.

"This model is inaccurate-- While in orbit, the space shuttle's payload bay doors are always open. "

Um…

A. Maybe we’re seeing just after achieving orbit or just before reentry.

B. Perhaps the modeler did not have the capacity/time to render the interior of the ship.
