Spacecraft: Earth Orbit:
Spitzer Space Telescope

Summary:The Spitzer Space Telescope.
Description:The Spitzer Space Telescope (formerly SIRTF, the Space Infrared Telescope Facility) was launched into space by a Delta rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida on 25 August 2003. Spitzer will obtain images and data from the infrared energy, or heat, radiated by objects in space. Jack's package needs some modification to work in Celestia. After installing according to the instructions, you'll have to modify the "JACKspitzer-xyz.ssc" file so that the SampledOrbit "spitzer.xyz" line reads SampledOrbit "sirtf.xyz" instead. If this is not done, the add-on will NOT work correctly. An alternative option is to rename the sirtf.xyz file to spitzer.xyz so that Celestia can find the correct xyz file. Also make certain that you download BOTH files here.

The trajectory included in this Addon is valid only for the Julian dates
Beginning 2452876.772222222 # 12aug03
Ending 2455195.795793577 # 17dec09

You must set Celestia's date to some time between those dates in order to see the spacecraft.

@ Bob:
AFAIK Spitzer really isn't a satellite of the earth. It follows a heliocentric orbit instead.

Modify the SSC as described in our explanation of the add-on, and you may wish also to modify the SSC as follows: Change "Spitzer Space Telescope" "Sol" to reflect the Earth orbit as follows: "Spitzer Space Telescope" "Sol/Earth"
